Asst jail supt of Amritsar Central Jail suspended

Amritsar, Apr 14 (UNI) The Assistant Jail Superintendent of the Central Jail here, Shamsher Singh, and a warder, Ramesh Kumar, were placed under suspension today on charges of dereliction of duty.

Informing this Central Jail DIG, Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh said that the action was taken after a mobile phone and three grams smack were recovered from an undertrial Harjit Singh. The phone was given to the undertrial at Jalandhar yesterday where he had gone to attend a case hearing, he said.

The DIG said the cell phone was given to Harjit by another undertrial Kulwant Singh Kanta who too had been brought to the courts from Jalandhar central jail. Both Kanta and Harjit were arrested in the Parambir kidnapping case that took place in February last year. Parambir a plus two student was kidnapped from Amritsar and released after ransom was paid.

The DIG said the jail staff, after a search of the central jail this morning recovered seven grams smack from another undertrial.
