5 security personnel among 13 injured in 4 blasts

Srinagar, Apr 14 (UNI) Militants today struck in a big way in the city attacking security forces with hand grenades at four places, injuring 13 people, including five security personnel.

In the first attack at 1210 hours, militants hurled a hand grenade towards a Border Security Force (BSF) vehicle, parked near Central Telegraph Office (CTO) which exploded on the roadside causing injuries to three BSF personnel.

The injured were admitted to hospital. Traffic on the Moulana Azad Road was suspended for some time. The sound of the blast was heard in the entire civil line area.

Jamait-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) has claimed responsibility for the blast.

Sources said ten minutes after the first blast, militants hurled a hand grenade towards a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) picket at Magarmal Bagh on the Srinagar-Airport road. However, the grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside without causing any damage.

Militants later targeted security forces at busy Hari Singh High Street (HSHS). However, this grenade also missed the target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to eight persons. The injured have been hospitalised.

Later, militants hurled a hand grenade towards a security force vehicle at Batmaloo. The vehicle caught fire after the grenade exploded, injuring two security personnel.
