24 new CRPF battalions to be raised: DG
Jalandhar, Apr 14 (UNI) As many as 24 new battalions will be raised in the Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) by the end of next year, Mr Jyoti Kumar Sinha, Director General, CRPF, said here today.
Talking to reporters Mr Sinha said among these, some are proposed to be women's battalions but a decision on actual number is yet to be taken.
He said presently, 51 of the total 176 battalions are deployed in Jammu and Kashmir for counter-insurgently operations and other security assignments.
He said deployment in that militancy infested border state would soon be raised to 76 battalions in a two phased manner.
He said that in its bid to increase efficiency of the personnel, the CRPF had also opened an anti-insurgency Training Schools in Silchar and near Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. These schools impart a month-long training to the CRPF personnel, he added.
The force has also been provided with modern equipments and satellite telephones in the Naxalite infested pockets of the country, he added.
