Vaughan ready to give up ODIs to prolong Test career

London, Apr 13 (UNI) Regular England captain Michael Vaughan has conceded that he might give up playing ODIs to save his Test career.

Vaughan, who troubled by a persistent knee problem, admitted that injuries might not allow him to continue in both forms of the game and if the choice is between one-dayers and Tests then he would prefer playing the longer version.

''I love playing cricket and while I am given the opportunity to play both forms of the game, I would love to continue. But in the future if a stage comes whereby missing out on one form of the game will prolong my cricket for a few years then of course that decision will be made,'' Vaughan was quoted by the Independent as saying.

''But until I get back playing cricket with all the work I'm doing now it is very difficult to say what I'm going to do,'' he added.

Vaughan said he was keen to return in time for the Test series against Sri Lanka next month.

''The most important thing for me is to just get back playing cricket and then there are decisions I will probably have to make,'' he said.

The regular captain, who made an early exit from the Indian tour, said he was happy with the way Andrew Flintoff stepped in to his shoes and guided the team to its first Test win India in 17 years.

''Freddie did a tremendous job. It was a very difficult position he was put in,'' Vaughan said praising his replacement.
