London, Apr 13 (UNI) Calling for an end to the controversy surrounding the early departure of his deputy Marcus Trescothick from the tour of India, England's regular captain Michael Vaughan has refused to comment on the reasons given by the opener for his exit.

''Marcus left the tour, had a few problems and an illness, now let's look forward,'' Vaughan told BBC Five Live.

''He has picked himself up and it will be great to have him back in the team,'' he added.

Trescothick had earlier revealed that he withdrew from the tour after being hit by a virus in Mumbai. He also said playing continuous cricket had also taken its toll on him and he wanted to spend some time with his family.

The regular vice-captain contradicted the explanation put forth by the English cricket board and coach Duncan Fletcher, who had said the opener had quit because of ''personal reasons''.

Trescothick's revelations have been met with scepticism here and instead of putting an end to the speculation they have deepened the mystery surrounding the reasons of his withdrawal.

Vaughan said whatever the reasons, the issue should be closed now and hoped that the regular vice-captain would soon make a comeback to the side.

''He is a tremendous player for England and he was missed in India because of the way he plays in the sub-continent,'' Vaughan said.

''Hopefully he will have a good start for Somerset and he will be back in the team against Sri Lanka.'' ''Whatever has been said and whatever happened we should look forward to Marcus getting back into the England team doing what he does best, scoring runs, taking first-slip catches and having a huge influence on the team away from the game,'' he added.

Vaughan admitted that playing away from home did affect players but added that as professionals they should be aware of ways to cope with the gruelling schedules.

''Every individual copes in a different way. We are playing a lot of cricket and we are away from home a lot,'' he said.

''But that's your job and you have to be able to do it.'' ''Some enjoy having their families there, some players like being on their own for a period. It's just a case of managing that to make sure we give them the best opportunity to perform in all conditions,'' Vaughan explained.

Vaughan, currently recuperating from a knee injury, said he had no immediate plans to return and would not take any chances with his fitness.

''I'm not even going to suggest playing at the minute,'' he said.

''I have to just take one day at a time and make sure I do my rehabilitation properly. It is a bit tedious to spend so many hours in the gym but I realise I have to do it to make sure I give myself the best opportunity to come back strong,'' he added.
