Tension prevails after truck carrying cows runs over animal activist
Vadodara, Apr 13 (UNI) Tension prevailed in the Jhaghadiya taluka of Bharuch district today when a truck illegally carrying cows to a slaughter house, ran over and killed an animal rights activist at Mandva on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai national highway number eight, about 80 km from here.
Police said Darshansinh Vaghela (40), leader of the Bharuch-based Kamdhenu Goraksha Samittee, died on the spot when he tried to stop the truck along with a couple of the samittee volunteers by putting up a blockade on the road. Sensing trouble, the truck driver accelerated the speed of the vehicle and ran over him. Both the truck driver and cleaner managed to flee leaving the cow-laden vehicle behind.
As the news spread, the Goraksha samittee activists staged a protest demonstration and took out a rally to submit a memorandum to the District Superintendent of Police demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.
