Nomination of two MCD House members to Edn. Committee illegal:Mukhi
New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Jagdish Mukhi today described as "illegal", the MCD House move yesterday to send two of its members to fill as many vacant posts in the Educational Committee, a statutory committee.
In a letter to Lt Governor B L Joshi, Mr Mukhi said as per proper procedure under the DMC Act, every candidate for election as member of a statutory committee had to file a nomination paper which should be signed by the candidate and two members of the corporation and delivered to the Municipal Commissioner at least three days before the meeting at which election is to be held.
In this context, Mr Mukhi said the meeting of the House yesterday, where election to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor was held, did not have on its the agenda the election of the members of the Education Committee.
''It has been brought to my notice that instead of following the normal procedure of election, the leaders of the corporation illegally and from the backdoor nominated two members to the education committee. I accordingly request you to look into the matter as an administrator and stop this illegal act and direct for filling the vacancies through the process of law,'' Mr Mukhi said in his letter.
