Woman killed in police firing in Bengal
Behrampore, Apr 12 (UNI) A 25 year-old woman was shot dead by police today at Daspara of Simulia under Salar police station in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
A clash broke out between two groups of villagers following a row over participation in religious festival called 'Charak' forcing police intervention.
While a group was moving towards the mela ground in a procession, another group protested and pelted stones leading to the clash.
Policemen from Salar station rushed to the spot but the irate villagers also attacked them forcing the police to fire in which Tulsi Das was killed. Two others, including a policeman, were hospitalised.
Meanwhile, sub-inspector of Salar police station Shibaprasad Mukhopadhyay was suspended for resorting to firing.
Murshidabad Assistant Superintendent of Police said,''It's yet to be ascertained whether the police firing was provoked or unprovoked.
