UP okays free text books to Class VI to VIII students
Lucknow, Apr 12: Uttar Pradesh government today decided to provide free text books to all students from sixth to eight standard in government schools from the next academic session.
The state governemnt is already giving free text books to girls, Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes and OBC students from standard sixth to eight, but from now on all students irrespective of caste or gender will be provided the benefit.
The decision was taken in the state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav here.
State Chief Secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpayee, briefing newspersons about the cabinet meeting, said now all the students of government schools would get free text books from standard sixth to eight, as announced by the Chief Minister in his budget speech.
The UP government also decided to provide gratuity after their 60 year services to the non-teaching staff in non-aided government secondary schools of the state. Earlier, employees who took retirement at the age of 58 were getting the gratuity while those who retired at 60 were not getting the gratuity benefit.
In another decision, the government decided to appoint 134 specialist doctors in government hospitals on contract basis. The doctors appointed for an year, would get Rs 15,500 per month for their daily six hour services, but would have to shed Rs 500 for a day's absence.
The government also decided to hike the pension of non-centralised employees of the Nagarpalikas and Nagar Panchayats by over two and a half times. Now the sweeper and clerk grade employees would be eligible for more than Rs 2000 per month pension while earlier it was below Rs 1000 per month.
