LET threat: Police on high alert
Raichur, Karnataka, Apr 12 (UNI) Police were put on high alert regarding the movement of persons in a suspicious manner in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region following the arrest of an alleged Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist from Gulbarga and seizure of huge cache of arms from the hideout of an alleged naxalite in Koppal district.
Speaking after visiting the hideout at Boodgumpa village in Koppal and holding a review meeting with Superintendents of Police to assess the situation in the naxal-prone border villages of the district last evening, Inspector General of Police (Anti-Terrorist squad) M K Nagaraj said the Government was serious about tackling terrorism and naxalism in the region and had directed the police to initiate tough measures in disturbed areas of the State.
Noting that naxalite and terrorist activities had been on the rise in the State in recent years, he said police had tightened vigil in some areas and keeping a close watch on people moving around in a suspicious manner in railway stations and bus stands.
It may be recalled here that a suspected LET operative Abdul Rehman alias Sami Ahmad Shah was recently arrested in the Gulbarga railway station and a huge cache of arms was seized from the hideout of an alleged naxalite from Ranga Reddy district in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
