Journalists protesting supression FoP arrested in Nepal
Kathmandu, Apr 12: Over 30 journalists were today arrested for protesting against the royal government's measures to supress Press Freedom in Nepal.
The journalists were protesting against restrictions imposed on the Press coverage of rallies which were organised by the seven major political parties during the week.
They were arrested outside the office of Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ).
According to the FNJ, a total of 111 journalists have been arrested during the past one week.
Demonstrations are being held for the seventh day today in various parts of the country including the capital, to restore democracy. Civilians from different walks of life are supporting the movement.
However, according to the Reuters, the government has relaxed the daytime curfew in the capital.
Meanwhile, newspapers have published pictures of security personnel in civilian clothes firing rounds from the house of a senior police officer at Gongabu yesterday. They shot at the activists, wounding many from the house of Rup Sagar Moktan, Additional Inspector General of police.
The government claims it was a case of Maoists infiltration but the parties believe the operation was carried out at government orders.
The injured are being treated in an overflowing emergency hall.
