Hero Honda looking at amicable solution to workers' strike
New Delhi, Apr 12 (UNI) In the wake of the agitation by employees at its Gurgaon plant, Hero Honda today said it is considering to absorb some of the contractual employees on its payroll.
''We are considering to absorb some of the employees on our payroll based on qualification, skill level, stability and requirement. We might reach an amicable solution by tonight,'' Hero Honda Motors Ltd Vice President and Plant Head V S Kasbekar told reporters.
With talks being in the final stages, the company is looking at an amicable solution to the issue by tonight.
According to official sources almost 2,000 temporary workers had struck work since 0630 hrs on Monday demanding permanent employment.
They have demanded immediate regularisation of 1,000 workers.
Following which 100 workers should be regularised every month. Among other things, the workers have also demanded salaries to be transferred in banks and employees be given ATM cards.
The workers have demanded that compensatory offs be given to them, besides medical policies as per company rules.
'' We have agreed to a lot of their demands. We are in the process of working out the modalities,'' Mr Kasbekar said.
The Hero Honda Gurgaon plant produces 5,800 motor vehicles a day. There has been no production since 0630 hours on Monday.
Hero Honda is confident of making up the production losses due to the strike, in the course of the year.
''We are making sure that there are no lapses at the dealers end,'' Mr Kasbekar said.
He said that there are enough stocks in the pipeline and the strike would not really affect the company's production.
The company's Gurgaon plant has 1650 permanent employees and 2000 contractual workers.
