Face lift: Tirupati Rly Station to have passsenger lifts

Hyderabad, Apr 12 (UNI) South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager D N Mathur today said efforts were on to set up passenger lifts at the Tirupati Railway Station for the benefit of senior citizens visiting the pilgrim centre.

Speaking to newsmen here, Mr Mathur said the lifts costing Rs 80 could be initially installed on an experimental basis.

''Once successful, we are planning to introduce similar passenger lifts at Secunderabad Railway Station which has many platforms,'' he added.

Initially, the SCR planned to set up escalators at Secunderabad and Tirupati Railway Stations following their success at Vijayawada Railway Station. However, the proposal was rejected by the Centre.

Referring to the newly set-up automated car parking at Secunderabad Railway Station, Mr Mathur said the response was very good.

''We are trying to introduce the same kind of parking system at Vijayawada Railway station very soon,'' he added.

On extremists taking control of trains by extremists, Mr Mathur said the SCR held joint meeting with top police officials and were in constant touch on security of the passengers.

He said 18 surveillance cameras with long range high resolution had been installed at stategic places at Secunderabad Railway Station .
