DGP launches community policing scheme
Khanna, Apr 12 (UNI) In an attempt to involve the public in the maintenance of law and order, the border state of Punjab would be brought under the Community Policing Scheme.
This was disclosed by state Director General of Police (DGP) S S Virk after inagurating the the Community Policing Research Centre here today. This Centre has been constructed at a cost of Rs one crore with government as well as public funds.
Khanna will be the first police district in the state where this scheme has been introduced.However plans are afoot to extend this to the rest of the state in phases.
Though the scheme has been in operation since December last year, it was formally launched today by the DGP.The scheme is the brainchild of SSP Naunihal Singh who will soon be taking over as the first SSP of the newly created Mohali district.
Under this scheme the police has employed 724 unemployed youth who will participate with the police force in maintaining law and order in the district.
