Conference on risk assessment in the IOR gets underway

Mumbai, Apr 12 (UNI) Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Western Naval Command Vice Admiral S S Byce today inaugurated a round table conference on ''Risk Assessment in the Indian Ocean Region'' here.

The two-day conference, being held under the aegies of headquarters, Western Naval Command, is part of the training curriculum of the 18th Naval Higher Command Course at the College of Naval Warfare (CNW) here, a release said.

During the conference, eminent speakers from Mumbai, Jadavpur and Jawaharlal Nehru Universities and senior naval officers will aim to provide a multi-disciplinary approach towards understanding the geopolitics of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and carry out risk assessment to the country's national interests.

''An exposure to divergent views expressed at the IOR conference will help the Naval Higher Command Course participants to understand the dynamics of this region and will prepare them for the future role that the Indian Navy is to undertake in the IOR to safeguard national interests,'' the release added.
