15 police personel injured, teargas shells lobbed

Bangalore, Apr 12 (UNI) Police lobbed two rounds of tear gas shells to quell the frenzied mob which tried to barge through the main entrance of the Kanteerava stadium where the mortal remains of the Kannada Matinee Idol Rajkumar was kept for public viewing.

Police personnel, who were in large number, first lathi charged to disburse the unruly mob which tried to force their entry despite appeals.

In all 15 police personnel were injured in stone pelting. More than Fifty people were taken into custody in connection with violence.

The trouble started as bringing body was delayed trying patience of the Fans. The police, who found the Palace Grounds where it was earlier decided to be kept for public viewing, decided to shift the venue to Kanteerava Stadium.

Finally the body of Rajkumar was kept inside the stadium at a make shift platform and allowed the crowd to pay their last respect.

Children of Rajkumar including Puneeth Rajkumar, Shivarajkumar and Raghavendra Rajkumar accompanied the body.

Mr Shivraj Kumar, who was away attending shooting in Hampi, arrived here tonight.

Maharashtra Governor and former Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna, who arrived from Mumbai paid tributes to the departed soul.
