Zak Expo to generate Rs 20 cr biz: Organisers

Chennai, Apr 11: The four-day Zak Interior Exterior Expo 2006 and International Furniture Fair to be held here from April 20 is expected to generate about Rs 15 to 20 crore of business this year, according to its organisers.

The sixth edition of the expo, which had received tremendous response since it was launched in 2001, would have a visitor turnout of about one lakh.

''Last year the expo generated a business of about Rs eight crore. This year, with more foreign companies participating, we expect a business of about Rs 15 to 20 crore and enquiries to the tune of Rs 30 to 40 crore,'' Mr Syed Zakir Ahmed, Managing Director of Zak Trade Fairs and Exhibitions Private Limited told reporters here today.

Over 150 companies would be participating in the expo as against 110 companies last year and products from 16 countries including Korea, China, Singapore, Italy, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia and Kenya would be on display during the four-day expo.

The boom in the construction sector could be guaged by the participation of 16 countries, as against four last yar, Mr Ahmed said.

The expo would benefit interior exterior designers, architects, builders, dealers, distributors and the consumers at large as the largest collection of furniture, handicrafts, exclusive furnishing, interior designs would be on display under one roof.

The expo would show case new products of paints and and emulsions, varieties of tiles, exclusive sanitaryware from Singapore, roofing materials from Korea, bronze icons, wood and stone carvings, colonial and antique furniture, terracota items, paper mache, sandalwood fitures and other handicraft items.

After Chennai, the expo would mvoe to Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore, he said.
