Muslims offer prayers, greetings at Id-ul-Milad-Un-Nabi

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) Mosques across the country today were vibrant with the celebrations of Id-ul-Milad-Un-Nabi, the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.

Special prayers and processions marked the holy occasion. Night long prayers were organised, people were allowed a glimpse of the holy relic of the mosques after every prayer and they were seen exchanging greetings. In some places the day was organised as anti-terrorist day.

The Jammu and Kashmir government granted permission to the people to take out a procession on Id-ul-Milad-un-Nabi for the first time in several years and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad along with his cabinet and party colleagues besides thousands of people offered prayers at the historic Hazratbal Shrine housing the holy relic of the Prophet Muhammad.

At Tiruchirapallis a large number of Muslims thronged the Mohamadia Zamia Mosque to have a Glimpse of the 1401-year-old ''holy hairs'' of ''mohammed Sallalahu Alaihi Vasallam'' (Mohammed Nabi) -- the holy prophet of Islam.

The Imam of the 254-year-old Mosque, Hazrat Syed Dasthagir Kathiri told UNI that the prophet was born in 571 AD and lived for 60 years. After his death, his friends called as ''Sahabis'' brought the holy relics of Mohammed Nabi, such as his hairs, Ammama (Turban) and clothes which were put on display once in a year.

Decked-up children and men in the traditional white kurta and churidar thronged the Khilafat House in Byculla area of South Central Mumbai for the occasion.

A special 'Niskar' was organised at the Chinna Subbrayapillai Saalai Mosque in Pondicherry to mark the 'Milad-un Nabi' in the Union Territory.

In Hyderabad, special prayers and charitable programmes and some organisations observed the day as anti-terrorist day.

In New Delhi the 'Markazi Anjuman Id-e-Miladun Nabi' procession started at Bara Hindu Rao and ended at Chawri Bazar under tight security arrangements.

Chandigarh celebrated with colourful processions, public meetings and religious discourses.
