Iodised salt to be sold at Rs 4 KG in AP

Hyderabad, Apr 11 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to sell iodised salt at a subsidised price of Rs 4 at all sales outlets of the civil supplies department to ensure that the poor do not suffer due to iodine defficiency.

Stating this at a press conference here today, Agriculture and Civil Supplies Minister N Raghu Veera Reddy said that a special supervisory committee was created under the chairmanship of senior IAS officer Bhanwarlal to ensure that the farmers got remunerative prices for their produce. He said pulses would be purchased by the Civil Supplies Department and tamarind procured by the tribals would be purchased by the Girijan Cooperative Corporation.

Replying to questions, he denied that the government was planning to stop supply of subsidised rice to the poor as was being alleged by opposition parties. He said no deserving person would be denied of rice at subsidised rate.
