Freddie may be rested for tomorrow's tie

Written by: Staff

Jamshedpur, Apr 11 (UNI) Andrew Flintoff may have to wait before appearing in his 100th one-day international for England.

According to reports here the stand-in captain, who sat out the abandoned fifth match of the series in Guwahati may have to cool his heels again as coach Duncan Fletcher is concerned about his workload.

England may also recognise Freddie's feat whether it be here tomorrow or in Indore at the weekend, with a silver plate and a commemorative cap.

Given his workload this winter and the busy 12-month schedule ahead, including a packed domestic season, the ICC Champions Trophy, the Ashes tour and the World Cup, it appears unlikely that Flintoff will play both the remaining ODIs.

''We want to rest Freddie whenever we can, we saw this as an opportunity the other day and we will be monitoring it,'' coach Duncan Fletcher reportedly said.

''It is both mental and physical fatigue: the mental side does play a part and you have to look at both sides. Once Fred has got a ball in his hand or bat in hand he gives 100 per cent,'' he added.

The 28-year-old was outstanding in the drawn Test series, earning a deserved man-of-the-series award just as he did in the Ashes triumph last summer.

With the series decided there is a pigeonhole of an opportunity for giving some rest to the newest architect of England's resurrection.
