Flintoff should be England's ODI captain : Dean Jones

London, Apr 11 (UNI) England may have already lost the seven-match ODI series against India under Andrew Flintoff but cricketer-turned-commentator Dean Jones is convinced that the strapping charismatic allrounder is the right person to lead the side in one dayers.

''Vaughan is a very good player who has done a great job as Test captain but he has always got injury concerns,'' Jones told BBC Five Live.

''I think it is time to name Freddy as one-day captain. He is one guy who has not dropped his performance one bit.'' Jones, however, admitted that the English side would return home with tattered pride after the thrashing in the ODI series.

''They need to learn some lessons from their experiences there, because they are going to go home with their tails between their legs after the one-dayers.'' ''But Freddie has handled everything beautifully. I love the way he goes about it. He has handled the captaincy really well, particularly at Mumbai when they levelled the Test series.'' Sympathising with Flintoff, Jones said, ''I don't think he has the right cattle in India - the players don't seem to be able to get their heads around playing one-dayers there.'' ''But I think he is the answer to the captaincy in one-dayers.

The players will get behind him and move on from here.'' ''I have never met a better bloke playing cricket on the opposition side. He is such a big character, full of life and puts bums on seats. Good things happen to good people,'' Jones said, reacting after Flintoff was named Wisden's Leading Cricketer of the World for 2005 today.
