Councillors resignation offer a drama: BJP
New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) The secretary of the Delhi Pradesh BJP and Municipal Councillor Vijendra Gupta today described as a "drama" the offer of resignation by 11 Congress Municipal councillors to the Delhi Pradesh Congress president Rambabu Sharma yesterday.
Terming the resignations submitted to the Delhi Pradesh Congress president by the councillors, led by the Leader of the MCD House Jitender Kochar, as simply pieces of waste paper, Mr Gupta said if they have some moprality left, the councillors should resign according to the provisions of section 33 (b) of the MCD Act.
''According to section 33 (b) of the Act, the resignation of a councillor should be addressed to the Mayor and the concerned councillor should sign the letter. This resignation letter should be submitted in the office of the Municipal Commissioner. By doing so their seats shall be automatically vacated and will not require any approval,''Mr Gupta said.
Charging the Congress with indulging in ''hypocricy with the public in the open but framing policies against the public behind closed doors'', Mr Gupta said,''the assurance given by the Congress for issuing the Ordinance to stop the action of uprooting the traders of Delhi in the last few months have proved to be false.
The resignations were like sprinkling salt on the wounds of the lakhs of affected families rendered unemployed due to closure of their business.'' The councillors, which included Mr Jitender Kochar, Mr Ashok Vohra, Mr Sanjay Puri, Mr Kunwar Sen, Dr Anita Babbar (who is a candidate for the post of Deputy Mayor), Vimal Chaudhry, Mrs Indu, Ms Jayshree Pawar and Mr Hiran Tokas, last evening met Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Rambabu Sharma with their offer of resignations if the High Command and the Centre did not take urgent steps to bring relief for the people of Delhi.
