Bill Clinton to be honoured with Fulbright Prize
Washington, Apr 11: Former President Bill Clinton will be awarded the J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding at a ceremony to be held at the International Monetary Fund Headquarters on April 12.
The honour on President Clinton is in recognition of his bold, enlightened initiatives to fight poverty, ignorance, and racial, ethnic, and religious prejudices throughout the world.
As President, he established constructive relationships between the United States and Latin American nations, focused attention and resources on the challenges facing the African nations, and promoted peace in West Asia and in Ireland.
He founded the Williams J. Clinton after retiring from Presidentship.
Besides Clinton, others participating in the ceremony are former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright; former U.S. Senator David Pryor; Mr. Neville Isdell, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, the Coca-Cola Company; and Dr. R. Fenton-May, President, Fulbright Association.
Created by the Fulbright Association in 1993 with the support of The Coca-Cola Foundation, the J. William Fulbright Prize for International Understanding recognizes individuals who have made extraordinary contributions towards bringing people, cultures, and nations closer.
Past Fulbright Prize laureates are Nelson Mandela (1993), Jimmy Carter (1994), Franz Vranitzky (1995), Corazon C. Aquino (1996), Václav Havel (1997), Patricio Aylwin Azócar (1998), Mary Robinson (1999), Marti Ahtisaari (2000), Kofi Annan (2001), Sadako Ogata (2002), Fernando Henrique Cardoso (2003) and U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell (2004).
