AP CM seeks PM's intervention

Hyderabad, Apr 11 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today sought the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ensure that Maharashtra Government stopped the construction of Babhali barrage.

In a letter which the Chief Minister would personally hand over to the Prime Minister on April 13, copies of which were released to the media today, Dr Reddy said contrary to the decision taken during the Inter State Meeting called by the Union Minister for Water Resources on April four, Maharashtra Government instead of stopping the construction of the project, had stepped up the pace of construction.

Stating that Babhali barrage was being constructed illegally in the reservoir complex of the Sri Ram Sagar Project, he alleged that seven districts of the Telangana Region, would be affected because of the construction.

The Chief Minister also alleged that when the Congress MP from Nizamabad Madhu Yashki Goud tried to visit the project site, he was attacked and the police remained mute spectators.
