80 branches especially open today for pensioners

New Delhi, Apr 11 (UNI) With a view to catering to the needs of customers, especially pensioners and salaried class, State Bank of India today opened 80 branches across the capital, despite the day being a bank holiday on account of Mahavir Jayanti and Milad-un-Nabi.

SBI Delhi circle opened 54 branches under its area of operation on a select basis, area-wise and business mix-wise, in the city and 26 main centres outside Delhi, SBI sources said in a statement today.

Special measures were needed to clear pending working after the week-long strike by staff and Officer's Federations of the SBI was called off on April 9 following successful talks on the pension issue with the government.

Back office work was also carried out at the other branches today.

Service branch has also been working continuously to process over two lakh clearing instruments received from other banks.

ATMs are fully functional and cash has been replenished to meet any unforseen demand.

It is believed that banking operations would be completely normalised by tomorrow.
