World of cricket 'explored' in a novel way
Chennai, Apr 10 (UNI) With international cricket matches being brought live right into the drawing rooms thanks to satellite channels, cricket writers have to come up with novel, themes to attract cricket buffs.
One such work, meeting this criterion, is all set to enthuse ardent cricket fans, taking them on a trip through the world of cricket between 1877-2005. This latest venture in cricket literature titled ''Great Players, Great Events-Cricket 1877-2005'', is by a journalist-writer Partab Ramchand. He already has under his belt, several books on Indian cricket.
Former India captain, renowned off-spinner and eminent international umpire, S Venkataraghavan, has corroborated in the book which hits the stand on April 13.
The book features 330 cricketers from nine Test playing countries on their birthdays, with a write up, photograph and statistical information. In all, there are about 225 dates for the cricketers. The remaining 140 are devoted to notable events.
Events that occurred about 100 years ago as well as two or three years back, issues that have had a very important bearing on the game since the last 100 years like the Bodyline series the throwing controversy and the match fixing crisis are some of the topics covered.
Giving a lighter touch to the theme are a number of interesting anecdotes and amusing incidents.
