Ranganathittu sanctuary to get a face-lift
Mysore, Apr 10: The World famous bird sanctuary at Ranganathittu near here would be made more attractive by creating a park, said Forest Minister Chennigappa.
Speaking to newsmen after the review meeting at the Aranya Bhavan here he said the bird sanctuary aleady attracting more tourists and the Government had decided to further develop the sanctuary by adding a park on the ten acres land close to the sanctuary so that the prestigious tourist destination would boost not only domestic tourists but also foreign visitors in large numbers.
He said the forest department has decided to plant six crores saplings in the state and this project would be funded by the centre with the cost of Rs 187 crores and State Government would also provide its share on this project which would commence from June this year.
Referring to the inquiries on the employees who involved in the killing of the few animals in the Zoo last couple of years, he said the Government has already dismissed the three employees and six more such employees would face the same fate.
On providing Rs 50 lakhs funds for the Mysore Zoo, he said during the last two years the funds were not provided and this year Rs 50 lakhs would be provided as requested by them.
