2 AIADMK workers arrested

Pondicherry, Apr 10: Police have arrested two AIADMK workers on charges of possessing bundles of dhotis and sarees, during election time.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team raided the houses of Ravi and Selvam last night in Orleanpet constituency and seized sarees and dhotis, kept there, reportedly for distribution among the voters to woo them.

The AIADMK had earlier announced Mr Nehru as the party candidate for Orleanpet and later replaced him with actor Anandaraj.

Mr Nehru protested the decision during the visit of Ms Jayalalithaa to Pondicherry and later announced that he would contest as an Independent candidate from Orleanpet.

A case had been registered against Mr Nehru for convening a meeting of his supporters at a public place, without prior permission , police added.
