New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) A delegation of Delhi traders today met President A P J Abdul Kalam and urged him to intervene to halt the ongoing sealing of shops in commercial areas of the capital which they said was creating a huge unrest in Delhi.

The delegation, led by the general secretary of the Confederation of All India traders Praveen Khandelwal, submitted a memorandum to Dr Kalam urging his immediate intervention in the matter to save lakhs of people in Delhi from being divested of their source of livelihood due to the sealing of shops in residential areas as per the order of the Supreme Court.

Mr Kalam, while stating that the said court order needed to be studied in depth, assured the traders that issues raised by them would receive his serious attention as the matter is related to a large number of people in Delhi.

In the memorandum to the President, the traders stated that while on one hand the closure of shops would cause huge amount of bad debts and lead to traders becoming insolvent, on the other hand, the banks and financial institutions would also run into financial crisis and the state government would be deprived of a huge amount of VAT revenue.
