TN Governor flags off Paramount's maiden flight to Chennai

Madurai, Apr 10 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala today said the temple city, the gateway to the southern part of the state, had the potential of becoming a hub for airline services.

Flagging off the maiden flight of 'Paramount Airways' in the Madurai-Chennai sector and inaugurating the E-Check-in facility of the airlines here, he said with the development of tourism in the country, air-traffic had become a prime mode of carrying tourists to various destinations.

Not only was the city situated in a region which was a repository of vast and unbroken cultural heritage and historical legacy, it was in the midst of pockets witnessing rapid industrialisation. It had contiguity to Tuticorin, an important port in the south.

With Rameswaram and other pilgrim centres being closely linked, it would also facilitate spiritual tourism, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Paramount Airways Managing Director K Thiagarajan announced that the company would offer 50 per cent tariff concession for physically challenged persons while providing free travel to all physically challenged children below the age of 12.

He said the airlines would concentrate on strengthening its presence in the Southern routes. Considering convenience of air passengers, the aircraft has been designed to dispense with middle seats. It had only window and aisle seats, he added.

Airports Authority of India Regional Executive Director K Ramalingam was among those who addressed the gathering.
