Subhash Bhowmick appointed Md Sporting coach

Kolkata, Apr 10 (UNI) Veteran coach Subhash Bhowmick, who was sacked by East Bengal following his arrest on alleged bribery charges a few months ago, was today appointed Mohammedan Sporting coach.

Md Sporting club secretary Sultan Ahmed told UNI on phone that Bhowmick was appointed coach of the club with immediate effect after the current coach Mohammed Habib was relieved of his job on health grounds.

''His first assignment is to guide the club in the National Football League versus Dempo in Goa on April 12,'' Ahmed added.

Ahmed said Habib fell ill after the 0-3 defeat in the away match against Sporting Clube de Goa on April 8. He was then moved to his home at Hyderabad for treatment.

''Yesterday, Habib was contacted on phone and doctors attending him prescribed complete bed rest. Hence, we have decided to recruit Bhowmick as the new coach of the club,'' Ahmed said.

Bhowmick will leave for Goa tonight to join the team for the April 12 match against NFL champions Dempo.
