ST federation to boycott polls

Pondicherry, Apr 10 (UNI) The Pondicherry Scheduled Tribes Peoples Federation here today threatened to boycott the May 3 and 8 Assembly elections in the Union Territory if the territorial administration failed to give a fair reply to the letter received from the Union Government regarding recognition of Scheduled Tribes here.

In a statement, Federation President K Ramkumar said the decision was taken at a meeting of the federation here this morning.

Mr Ramkumar said STs were fighting for the past 21 years to be recognised and for one percent reservation. However, the Pondicherry administration had failed to take steps to redress their grievances and had also failed to give a proper reply to the letter received from the concerned Union Ministry on May 2 last year, he added.
