Spurious Bt cotton seeds seized in Haryana

Chandigarh, Apr 10 (UNI) A racket involving sale of spurious Bt cotton seeds in Haryana has been busted by the state Agriculture Department with the help of police.

An official spokesman said a Gypsy carrying 300 packets of hybrid-type cotton seeds, allegedly meant for sale as Bt cotton seeds in various villages, was caught at Kheri Chaupta in Hisar district recently.

The raid was conducted following a tip-off and the spurious stock of seeds was seized.

He said it had been observed that many firms had been selling hybrid cotton seeds from Gujarat as Bt cotton and many companies of Haryana and Punjab were involved in the racket.
