Speaker directs govt to reduce CIDCO's development charges

Mumbai, Apr 10 (UNI) Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker Babasaheb Kupekar today directed the Government to take steps to reduce the development charges levied by City Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) by at least 25 per cent.

The directives came while discussing a calling attention demanding scrapping the development charges levied on property owners after accquisition from farmers.

Leader of Opposition Ramdas Kadam said since the builder had done the infrastructure work on his own expense, there was no need to levy separate infrastructure charge of Rs 1000 per sq.mt.

He was referring to cases in Mansarovar and Kamote areas of Navi Mumbai. He said CIDCO had already levied development charges of Rs 160 per sq.mt, Rs 40 per sq.mt for file scrutiny and water charges of Rs 25 per sq.mt during the agreement of handing over 12.5 per cent of the total accquired land back to the project affected.
