Shiv Sena protests Govt's quota move
New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) The Delhi unit of the Shiv Sena organised a protest here today against the Government's move to reserve 27 per cent seats for Other Backward Classes in centres of higher education.
The party also addressed memoranda to President A P J Abdul Kalam and the Election Commission seeking a ban any such order arguing it was divisive and violated the election code of conduct.
''The reservation announcement has been made purely with an eye towards the elections in five states. After all, how much benefit has accrued to socially weaker sections through the reservation policy so far,'' party Delhi unit chief Jaibhagwan Goyal said.
Arguing that the reservation policy had been politicised over the years, he said the Shiv Sena would stoutly oppose any attempt by the Government to hurt the interests of meritorious students.
