Sensex swings 141 points in choppy trade

Mumbai, Apr 10: In a choppy session so far the benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) swung 141 points in the days trade so far between a high of 11,676 points and a low of 11,535.

The 30 shares Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened with a gain of 31 points at 11,620 points as compared to the last close of 11,589 but turned volatile very soon.

Sensex traded flat with a gain of 9.20 points at 11,598 at 1300 hrs after touching a high of 11,676.

However, The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index was trading at 3,440 with a loss of 15 points at 1314 hrs. Nifty opened higher at 3,455 as compared to the last close at 3,454.

The BSE smallcap index was up by 0.98 per cent and BSE midcap index was up by 0.39 per cent gains.

Among the sectoral indices BSE Metal, Inofrmation Technology, Technology and Capital Goods indices were in the green.

Indices of BSE Oil&Gas, Bankex and Public Sector Undertakings, Health Care, FMCG, Automobile were in the red.

Cement manufacturing and marketing companies were leading the Sensex gainers list this afternoon led by ACC, Gujarat Ambuja Cements and Grasim Industries.

Other Sensex gainers were, Tata Steel, Satyam Computers, Cipla, Infosys, HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, Reliance Energy.

The losers on the Sensex were Maruti, SBI, Hindalco, Wipro, HDFC, NTPC, ITC, ICICI Bank, HLL, Bharti Tele.
