Sensex opens in the green, trades 18 pts up at 11607

Mumbai, Apr 10: The benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened with a gain of 31 points at 11,620 points as compared to the last close of 11,589.

However, the volatility in the market led to sudden rise and then a steep fall at 11,589 before the key index found some stability.

The 30 shares Sensitive Index (Sensex) was trading with a gain of 18 points at 11,607 at 1100 hrs after touching a high of 11,676.

However, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index opened higher at 3,455 as compared to the last close at 3,454. Nifty was trading at 3,447 with a loss of seven points at 1100 hrs.

The BSE smallcap index was up by 1.53 per cent and BSE midcap index was up by 1.09 per cent gains.

Among the sectoral indices BSE Metal, FMCG, Health Care and Capital Goods indices were up with significant gains.

Indices of BSE Oil&Gas, Bankex and Public Sector Undertakings were under pressure.

Cement manufacturing and marketing companies were leading the Sensex gainers list this morning led by ACC, Gujarat Ambuja Cements, and Grasim Industries.

Other Sensex gainers were Infosys, HDFC Bank, TCS, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, Ranbaxy and Satyam.

Index heavy weight Reliance Industries was also up by 0.2 per cent to Rs 834.60.

The losers on the Sensex were SBI, ICICI Bank, Maruti, Wipro, HDFC, ONGC, Bharti Tele, Hindalco, NTPC and Hero Honda.
