Sensex gains 71 points in choppy trade

Mumbai, Apr 10: In a choppy session the benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) settled 71 points higher at 11,662 as compared to the last close of 11,589. Metal companies were the major gainers and helped the Sensex close in the green.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) S&P CNX Nifty index closed 24 points up at 3,478.45.

The 30 shares Sensitive Index (Sensex) opened with a gain of 31 points at 11,620 points as compared to the last close of 11,589 but turned volatile very soon.

Among the sectoral indices BSE Metal index was the big gainer up 4.88 per cent.

Information Technology, Technology and Capital Goods indices managed to close in the green with less than a per cent gain.

Metal companies shining today were Tata Steel up by 6.91 per cent as new of its South Africa acquisitions fired up the counter.

Other big gainers were Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) up by 5.11 per cent; Hindalco gained 2.70 per cent; Jindal Stainless gained 14.30 per cent; JSW Steel Gained by 11.21 per cent, Essar Steel gained 8.18 per cent.

Among other matal scrips Hindustan Zinc gained 4.73 per cent; Sterlite Industries gained5 .71 per cent.

The BSE Smallcap index was up by 1.41 per cent and BSE Midcap index was up by 0.82 per cent gains.

Indices of BSE Health Care, Consumer Durable, Bankex and FMCG closed in the red with around one percent losses.

Cement manufacturing and marketing companies were led the Sensex gainers list today led by Grasim Industries, Gujarat Ambuja Cements and ACC,.

Other Sensex gainers were Tata Steel, Hindalco, Tata Motors, Satyam Computers, HDFC Bank, Reliance and ONGC.

The losers on the Sensex were SBI, HDFC, Maruti, NTPC, Hindalco, Wipro, Bharti Tele., ITC, ICICI Bank, Hero Honda.
