Samresh Jung eyes for Beijing Olympics berth
Jalandhar, Apr 10 (UNI) Melbourne Commonwealth Games' hero, shooter Samresh Jung is looking forward to book a berth for Beijing Olympics.
Expressing satisfaction over his performance at Melbourne, Jung said he would now maintain consistency in his performance to ensure a berth for Beijing Olymics.
Jung, who was declared the most outstanding athlete in Melbourne grabbing five gold medals, said performance at three World Cups and the World Championship are earmarked for deciding a place in the next Olympics.
He said he had missed a berth in the previous Olympics in Athens by a narrow margin of 0.4 points, but now he is confident that he would qualify for the Indian Olympic squad.
Jung, an inspector in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), hails from Himachal Pradesh and presently is here to participate in the ongoing 4th Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Memorial Masters' Shooting Championships being hosted by the Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) at the PAP Shooting Range.
Jung had a good opening in the championship here and improved his own national record by securing 570 points in 50 metre Pistol Firing event yesterday.
Several other star shooters of the country including Jaspal Rana and Vivek Singh are also participating in the meet which would conclude till April 14.
