Rs 10 lakh fake Indian currency seized

Mumbai, Apr 10 (UNI) The Detection Crime Branch (DCB) unit of Mumbai police has seized fake Indian currency of Rs 10 lakh in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 from a person in a hotel at Vile Parle in western suburbs here.

Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap at Avon hotel last night to nab Saijad Raees Rehman Khan, who came to the place to deliver the fake currency to his associates to circulate in the market.

At around 1930 hrs when Khan arrived at the spot with a red-colour bag, police intercepted him and seized eight bundles of currency notes in the denomination of Rs 500 and six bundles of currency notes in the denomination of Rs 1000.

During interrogation, Khan reveled names of three other people including a woman, who were allegedly involved in the crime.

He said the plan was hatched in Dubai.

Khan was produced before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Y Sishode here this afternoon who remanded him to police custody till April 21.
