Bhopal, Apr 10(UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that reservation to tribals would be provided on the basis of their population and vacant posts reserved for them would be filled on priority.

''The government would encourage entrepreneurship among the tribals to take up trade and commerce. The tribal families practising agriculture by tradition must harness employment potential in emerging areas,'' Mr Chouhan said at a state-level convention of All India Tribal Development Council here yesterday.

Recalling the contribution of the tribals in the country's freedom struggle and development, the Chief Minister said the state government would take all steps for advancement of tribal communities while ensuring their dignity and self-esteem.

''The life style, values and cultural traditions of tribals would be safeguarded,'' he said, adding decisions on tribal welfare would be taken in consultation with Adivasi Vikas Parishad.

Council Chairman Somji Bhai Damor said the people's representatives must be sensitive towards tribal issues and all sections of the society must help ensure various facilities to the tribals.
