PUCL wants cops' suspension for 'killing' civilians
Hyderabad, Apr 10 (UNI) The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) today demanded the suspension of police personnel allegedly responsible for the recent killing of two civilians in the naxal-infested Medak and Warangal Districts of Andhra Pradesh.
Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Home Minister K Jana Reddy should take to task Director General of Police Swaranjit Sen for his reported statement that it was difficult for the police to differentiate between civilians and naxals in the areas, PUCL State President Keshav Rao Jadhav told a press conference here.
Police had opened fire even when they said they were proceeding to their fields for irrigating the land, he claimed.
Mr Jadhav also promised to take up cudgels on behalf of the Dalits who were allegedly discriminated against by a temple priest at Marepadga village in Medak district.
He claimed the priest had all of a sudden introduced the pernious practice of untouchability in the temple.
