Omkareshwar hydroelectric project inaugurated

Mumbai Apr 10 (UNI) Voith Siemens Hydro Power Generation along with Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation (NHDC) and consortium partner Jaiprakash Associates (JAL), has announced the commencement of Unit 1 turbine and generator erection of the Omkareshwar 520 MW hydroelectric project.

The event was inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mr Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

A release issued here today stated that Mr Chauhan commended the progress of the project and urged all the constituents to ensure early completion of the project, which will contribute to significant development of the state.

The Omkareshwar project is located on the Narmada River, downstream of the operational Indira Sagar power station of NHDC, in Madhya Pradesh. The contract to build this power station was signed between NHDC and the consortium of JAL and Voith Siemens Hydro on July 18, 2003 with work on this project commencing on October 18 that year stated the release.
