Medicos stage dharna on GO 19 issue

Vijayawada, Apr 10 (UNI) Protesting over the 'indifferent' attitude of the Andhra Pradesh government for not cancelling Government Order (GO) 19, hiking the quota of in-service candidates in the medical post-graduate admissions, medical students staged a sit-in dharna inside the campus of the NTR University of Health Sciences here today.

The government had hastily brought the GO, the students said nine grace marks were given paving way for hike in reservation by an additional 30 per cent for the in-service candidates.

Andhra Pradesh Medical Students Association president Krishna Chaitanya told newspersons that the meritorius regular students were being deprieved of seats and demanded that the GO be immediately withdrawn.

Stating that Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors Association (APJDA) was supporting the issue, he said the PG medical students expressed solidarity and participate in the ongoing strike from tomorrow.

The PG medical counselling which began at the NTR university of Health Sciences on April three ended last evening. Altogether 766 PG medical seats were filled, as against 904.
