Mah Cong to discuss liquor policy with govt: Prabha Rau

Mumbai, Apr 10 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Prabha Rau today said that she would discuss the controversial liquor policy with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh in the next co-ordination committee meeting.

Talking to reporters here, Ms Rau said the Congress supported prohibition. ''The issue would be discussed in the next meeting.'' Finance Minister Jayant Patil, in his budget speech last month, had announced a new excise policy which would allow permit rooms and bars to sell sealed liquor bottles.

The proposals came in for severe criticism from within the Congress. Social activist Anna Hazare has threatened to launch an agitation on the issue.
