Jethmalani nominated to Rajya Sabha
New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) Noted criminal lawyer and former Union Minister Ram Jethmalani has been nominated by President APJ Abdul Kalam to the Rajya Sabha.
The nomination of Mr Jethmalani is to fill the seat fallen vacant after the death of Mr Vidya Niwas Misra. His term will end in August 2009, official sources said.
Mr Jethmalani, 82, had completed his previous term earlier this year after entering the Upper House as an independent supported by the Shiv Sena. Law Minister in the 13-day Vajpayee government in 1996, he had been argued in famous criminal cases like the assassination of Indira Gandhi and the Bombay blasts.
Mr Jethamalani will have only the remainder of the term of Mr Misra, the famous Hindi litterateur who died in a road accident in February last year.
