Funds worth 50 lakhs to be provided for Mysore zoo

Mysore, Apr 10 (UNI) The Karnataka government has decided to allocate more funds and create a park to make the world famous Ranganathittu bird sanctuary more attractive, state Forest Minister Chennigappa said.

Speaking to mediapersons after a review meeting at the Aranya Bhavan here yesterday, the minister said the bird sanctuary was already attracting tourists and the Government had decided to further its development by adding a park on the ten acres land close to it, so that the prestigious tourist destination would attract not only domestic tourists but also foreign visitors in large numbers.

He said the forest department has decided to plant six crore saplings in the state and this project would be funded by the Centre at a cost of Rs 187 crores and the state government would also provide its share for the project, which will commence from June this year.

Referring to the inquiries on employees, who were involved in the killing of some animals in the zoo in the last couple of years, he said the Government has already dismissed three employees and six others would also meet the same fate.

Mr Chennigappa said during the last two years, funds were not provided to the Mysore and added this year Rs 50 lakhs would be given.
