Debt ridden farmer couple ends life in Aurangabad
Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Apr 10 (UNI) A debt ridden farmer and his wife allegedly committed suicide last night at Shevga Village in this district.
Karmad police, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, said they have registered a case of ''sudden death'' in this connection.
The farmer, Dattatraya Ukirde (55), was found hanging from the ceiling of the house while his wife allegedly ended her life by consuming poison, police said.
The farmer had taken a loan of Rs 60,000 from a co-operative society, police said.
This is the third case of suicide by farmers in the district in over the last four days.
As per information available from the Divisional Commissionerate, Marathwada region had recorded a total of 18 suicide deaths, majority of them by debt-ridden farmers, in the quarter ended March 2006.
Beed district reported the most number of farmers' suicides at five, followed by Parbhani -- four, and Osmanabad, Aurangabad, Jalna and Latur districts reported two suicide deaths each, while one suicide death was reported from Nanded.
