Councillors threaten to resign if Ordinance not brought on sealing
New Delhi, Apr 10 (UNI) As a last ditch effort to halt the ongoing sealing and demolition operations in the national capital, 11 Municipal councillors from South Delhi constituency today threatened to resign from their posts if the Delhi Government and the Centre did not urgently come out with an Ordinance or a Bill.
At an emergent meeting held at the residence of senior Congress leader R K Anand, the councillors, led by the leader of the MCD House Jitender Kochar, demanded the Centre to immediately come out with an Ordinance or a Bill in the re-convened session of Parliament to bring relief to the traders.
They also called for speedy implementation of the Master Plan, 2021 and put a halt to the sealing and demolition operation till the Tejender Khanna committee submitted its report.
The councillors, which included Mr Jitender Kochar, Mr Ashok Vohra, Mr Sanjay Puri, Mr Kunwar Sen, Dr Anita Babbar (who is a candidate for the post of Deputy Mayor), Vimal Chaudhry, Mrs Indu, Ms Jayshree Pawar and Mr Hiran Tokas, threatened to resign if the Centre did not take urgent steps to address the matter.
The councillors will meet Delhi state Congress Committee president Rambabu Sharma later in the day urging him to raise the matter with party chief Sonia Gandhi seeking her intervention.
Expressing concern over the current situation in Delhi, the councillors said the decision to close down shops in residential areas was not a right one as shops constituted a source of livelihood for lakhs of families. The councillors also requested Mr R K Anand to put before the court all aspects of the sealing issue which have not been presented till now .
The senior Congress leader assured the councillors that he would apprise the court of all the important aspects of the problem and urge it to make a decision keeping in mind the humanitarian issue involved.
