Mumbai, Apr 10 (UNI) Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare today asked the State government to issue a statement, on the names of some ministers figuring up in conversations between underworld dons Chhota Rajan, D K Rao and fake stamp paper scam main accused Abdul Karim Telgi.

The issue was raised by Shiv Sena and BJP members in the Council.

However, Mr Davkhare also said such allegations could be levelled against any political leader and questioned as to how long the Government would conduct inquiry into such matters.

He expressed fear that if the trend of such allegations continues, people would sky away from politics.

Earlier, the issue was raised by Leader of the Opposition Pandurang Phundkar, who said the media has been carrying reports about the names of Minister of State for Home Siddharam Mhetre, Social Welfare Minister Chandrakant Handore and Forest Minister Babanrao Pachpute being mentioned in tapped telephonic conversation of Chhota Rajan and his henchman D K Rao, who is in jail.

Demanding a CBI inquiry into the issue, Mr Phundkar wondered how Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh had given a clean chit to the ministers.

Shiv Sena MLC Madhukarrao Sarpotdar also supported the demand of Mr Phundkar.

Senior BJP leader Nitin Gadkari also read out a report from a section of media in which PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal's name has been taken by Telgi, in connection with the scam.

Mr Gadkari said the ministers may not be involved in these issues, but the House should be informed about the Government's stand and a statement should be made by the Chief Minister on the same.
